Taking on one of North America’s picturesque road courses, Caleb Gafrarar battled the rest of the Skip Barber Racing Series competitors at the famed 4.048-mile, 14-turn Road America. Improving on his starting positions in both races, the young North Carolina resident and formula car rookie garnered a second-place podium result as he shifts his focus towards the next event in a few weeks’ time.
Kicking the weekend off with practice on Friday, Gafrarar kickstarted his weekend with a fifth-place result in qualifying to line up on the inside of row three for the first wheel-to-wheel action that afternoon.
“We had the speed in the first race, but a slight mistake cost me the draft, and I had to work hard to catch the drivers in front of me,” explained Caleb. “We did manage to turn the third fastest lap which will set us up for a good start tomorrow after a top-five finish today.”
Returning to the track Sunday for the second race of the weekend, Gafrarar proved his prowess as he found himself at the pointy end of the field. Making some bold moves to put himself in a position for the win, he crossed the line in the second position to celebrate on the second step of the podium.
Gafrarar added, “It is always great to finish the weekend on a high as this will provide some momentum toward our next event. A huge thank you to all my partners that help get me to where I am today.”
With the next event a week away, August 23-24 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, Caleb Gafrarar will not have to wait long to fight again for his first win of the season. The remaining schedule includes Sebring International Raceway, the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, and the Circuit of the Americas to close out the 2023 season.
Caleb Gafrarar would like to thank Skip Barber Racing Series, Circle K, Bell Helmets, Molecule, Minus 273, ULV, From the Ashes, and CPI Security for the continued support as we continue the 2023 racing season.
